A2 Marine is a company based in Rio de Janeiro that specializes in providing solutions and equipment for hydrography, bathymetric surveys, and precise positioning. The company's professionals have more than 15 years of experience in the survey industry and are dedicated to offering top-quality products and knowledgeable support.
A recent project involved the use of Ocean Alpha's SL40 ASV, a compact waterjet hydrographic surveying platform that features a carbon fiber hull and automatic collision avoidance. A Sonic 2020 multibeam sonar was fitted to the ASV for Vale, a Brazilian mining giant, to survey ponds located around mining sites that are typically 100 meters deep.
To ensure highly accurate bathymetric data and precise dredge volumes, motion sensors, a small inverter, and two 24V batteries were integrated into the ASV. Vale was impressed with the results and plans to purchase more ASVs with multibeam sonars in the future. A2 Marine trained a one of the technicians at Vale. on the operation of the multibeam echosounder and delivered training on the ASV. Vale needed highly accurate bathymetric data to enable precise dredge volumes. “The Sonic 2020 integrated with the SL40 was the right solution for that,” says Alex Franco, managing director of A2 Marine.
The mining company was very satisfied with the results and high-resolution survey data, which simplified the process of data collection in key mining sites. “It’s been working very well. We are very pleased to be able to offer the Sonic 2020 and ASV for mining applications such as these. Used together, they simplify the process of data collection in key mining sites”, Franco commented.
